You've Bagged It—Now How To Unload It?

Blog

Bulk bags are those enormous shroud-like bags used for storing hay, grain, and other materials. They are extremely convenient, and they save you a lot of money because what you put in them will not rot as it sits outside. Now that you have bagged it all, how do you expect to unload it without losing product? Thankfully, there are bulk bag unloaders that make sure you do not lose all of your product in the giant bags. Here is how the unloaders work.

Need Product? Slice Open a Bag

Normally, slicing open a bulk bag of these proportions would equal a lot of product on the ground. A bulk bag unloader slices open the end of the bag, catches product that spills out (e.g., grain or hay), and prevents it from dropping on the ground and blowing away in the wind. Now you have more product to use or to feed your livestock.

Closing the Bag Up Again

Okay, so you are not going to use the entire bulk bag you just opened. That is normal. These bags are so big it would take several head of cattle to eat their way through it, or the construction of a couple of houses to use up all the wood inside. After you retrieve what you need, tie off the bag, until you need to open it again. Best of all, you can just slice it open again, dropping the tie-off end to the ground, and taking what you need.

Moving an Entire Bag of Product

Bag unloaders double as bag movers, too. Lift and roll a giant bulk bag onto the front prongs of the vehicle. Now, the unloader can move it anywhere you want it to go. This is very helpful, if you want to move product inside a warehouse or a storage barn when exceptionally bad weather is predicted.

Costly Investment--Consider Renting

Bag unloaders are not cheap machines. It is a good idea to either rent one when you need it, or borrow one from someone you know. If you offer to pay to borrow it, you might find a neighbor, another contractor, or a construction company willing to help.

Where to Test Out an Unloader

Visit a construction machine expo. They often have several different machines you can test-drive, and see how easy it is to use a bag unloader. Then, you can decide what to do next.

Creating A Safer Work Environment

I have always been someone who loves to know more about the way the world works, which is part of the reason I started reading about industrial and manufacturing processes. I have always found it fascinating that professionals can create things by hand, and so I started attending factory tours, asking questions, and doing as much research as possible. It was really interesting to see how much of a difference my efforts made, and before I knew it, I was able to completely change the way I thought about manufacturing. This blog is here to help other people to appreciate the majesty of industry. Check it out!
