3 Important Safety Rules To Implement And Utilize When You Have Rolling Carts In Your Warehouse

Blog

From toting small packages to and from shipping and receiving to handling packing materials in large bundles, rolling carts can be a hugely beneficial piece of equipment to have around in your warehouse facility. While these industrial handling pieces are incredibly useful, they can also bring a few more safety concerns into the workplace. Because of this, you should be mindful of the safety rules and tips to implement to avoid an uptick in the number of workplace accidents when you add these carts to your workplace. Take a look at a few important safety rules to implement and utilize to ensure adding rolling carts to your warehouse repertoire of supplies does not cause more accidents in your place of business:

Make sure rolling carts have a designated parking place in the building.

Rolling carts left unattended to in the workplace can get in the way, block visibility, and even cause accidents. To ensure the rolling carts your employees use are not left out in the workplace where they could be a danger, designate a specific parking area in the building where the carts must be returned to once they have been used. If you have several carts or the rolling carts are used in multiple places, this can mean creating several designated rolling cart parking areas.

Make sure employees are trained to keep the wheels of the rolling carts well maintained.

If the wheels of the rolling carts are not well maintained, it can generate the potential for workplace accidents because:

  • carts that have bad wheels are more strenuous to push or pull
  • carts with soiled wheels can stop abruptly, which can cause someone to tumble into the cart or fall
  • carts with excessively worn wheels can be harder to guide to avoid running into someone

Ensure your employees know how to properly clean the wheels at the end of their shift and spot signs of rolling carts with wheels that need attention.

Make sure employees are properly trained on how to safely use the carts.

Anytime you bring new equipment into the workplace especially equipment that is mobile and will be used regularly, it is crucial that you introduce new training material to your employees. This training material should cover things like safe usage practices, why horse playing with the carts should be avoided, and information on maintaining a broken rolling cart. The more educated the staff is about the new rolling carts, the less likely it will be that you see workplace accidents occur after their addition.

Creating A Safer Work Environment

I have always been someone who loves to know more about the way the world works, which is part of the reason I started reading about industrial and manufacturing processes. I have always found it fascinating that professionals can create things by hand, and so I started attending factory tours, asking questions, and doing as much research as possible. It was really interesting to see how much of a difference my efforts made, and before I knew it, I was able to completely change the way I thought about manufacturing. This blog is here to help other people to appreciate the majesty of industry. Check it out!
